The Research Question

The first step in doing research is to identify a solid research question.  The research question needs to be clear, concise, and answerable (at least if you would like to finish your class or to finish your degree).   If you enjoy being a career graduate student or if you have no desire to obtain a real job in the future, then it is a good idea to try to address a vague and elusive question.  One of the most common mistakes that I have observed is for students to lose sight of the question.  When you have writer’s block, ask yourself the following:  What is my question?
