    Hello,

here is the voicethread link for my APA presentation.

The author presented a very good format to writing an APA paper however more information could have been given in the third part of the paper. The publication manual of the American psychological association states that the Method section should have a description of subjects, the size of the sample, effect size and an alpha level.

P.S I tried to post this comment on the voicethread but I don’t think it worked.

    • Anna Zawidlak-Czechyra September 23, 2011 at 9:44 am #

I really liked your presentation. It’s a simplified version of the APA format, and it’s helpful because in a clear way shows the steps how to write in this style.

    • Jessica Martinez September 24, 2011 at 4:37 am #

your presentation was clear, but it would have been better if you clearly explained each section better. Main Body and Main Body part 2 sounds a little boring, but I do like your reference to Methods section and Intro.

You did a tremendous job on your presentation. There was just no mention of the author’s note.

    • Olga Knap September 22, 2011 at 9:40 pm #

      Hello,
I think you’ve done a very good job on this presentation !

    • Sara Airasian September 23, 2011 at 3:41 am #

      Hey Jeselle,
I think your presentation was great. You nailed all the main topics in your presentation and explained each section in detail.

    • Kristen September 23, 2011 at 11:50 am #

Hey Jeselle, you did a really great job on this presentation. The instructions were clear and there was a good balance between what was placed on the slides to read and what you said yourself to elaborate on those points. Well thought out and structured presentation.

    • Jessica Martinez September 24, 2011 at 4:34 am #

Hey Jeselle, your presentation was really good and straightforward..

    • Danielle Coury September 24, 2011 at 5:45 pm #

This presentation was good. The author was very clear and direct, however you could have added a little more detail, as well as included page numbers so that we can reference back to the APA manual if we were confused about anything. Overall though, great job!

I thought this person did a pretty good job on explaining how to write an APA style research paper. Not only did she address the main points, but she did so in a very informative way.

    • tatyanabazarova September 23, 2011 at 4:14 pm #

      Hello Alexandra,
I think you did an amazing job on your presentation. I found it very informative, detailed and organized. Also very helpful for somebody who never wrote an APA style research paper. Overall great job!

    • Danielle Coury September 24, 2011 at 6:00 pm #

Really enjoyed this presentation. Alexandra did a great job explaining every topic that she presented. The presentation was very informative, concise, and accurate. Only minor complaint is in regard to how detailed the slides were. Other than that, this was a great presentation and it was very helpful as well.

Your presentation was well-done and very thorough. I especially appreciated your inclusion of formatting as well as content. I would include less on the slides or changing up the wording because you don’t want people to just focus on your presentation. Other than that, great job!

      Luis,

I really enjoyed how thorough and detailed your presentation was! Everything was clearly explained and well thought out. One thing I wish to mention is that at the beginning, the slides seemed a bit cluttered, perhaps shorten the amount you explain on the actual slide and talk about it in more detail as you speak. Great job overall!

      Anna,
Your presentation was great! I thought it was really concise and an easy to follow guide for writing in APA style. The only critique I could give is that in the Introduction you should include past studies that are relevant to your current study.

      • Jennifer Janeira September 23, 2011 at 3:39 pm #

Also, including past studies in the Introduction can be found on page 28 of the APA manual

This a great thorough presentation, you definitely used the manual to its fullest potential. My biggest problem was that the content on the slides was identical to the voice comments. A presentation really should be about the speaker and a powerpoint should just supplement the speaker. However, the content was great and I can definitely use this to reference writing a proper APA-style paper.

    • Shade September 22, 2011 at 11:40 pm #

This student gave a very detailed and concise presentation, covering all the steps on how to write, cite and reference in APA-style format.
My only critic is that the audio was rather muffled. How ever you have a nice speaking voice, which made up for some of the distortion.

    • Jennifer Janeira September 23, 2011 at 2:59 pm #

      Jessica,
One critique is, you should separate the Results section from the Discussion section as they are two distinct sections in an APA style paper (see pgs 32-37 in the APA manual). Another critique is that I could not hear you very well in the voicethread, but other than that it was a good presentation!

    • Elina Shtridler September 22, 2011 at 3:07 am #

Your presentation was good, I like the way you organized and wrote your presentation. I also like that you spoke very clearly and slowly, so it was easy to understand. However, I wish that you would have discussed all of the things that you wrote on your slides. It was a little difficult at times to finish reading the slides, so in your future presentations please allow a little more time for the audience to read your slide. When you were discussing the abstract, you mentioned that the abstract should include certain key words, such as “accurate, nonevaluative, coherent and readable, and concise.” From my understanding of the discussion of the abstract in the APA Manual (on page 26), I believe those should be the qualities of a good abstract, and I think you strayed away from that a little bit.

    • Olga Knap September 22, 2011 at 9:53 pm #

You’ve done a good job on your presentation. I feel like you’ve addressed all of the main points needed in order to write a successful APA paper. However, the only issue I have is with sound. I wasn’t able to listen to the presentation & read the slides at the same time. Maybe next time, you can record a comment for each slide separately which would make it a little easier to follow both.

    • Kristen September 23, 2011 at 11:58 am #

The content of the slides was clear, informative, and well written. However, it might have been better to separate the audio for each slide; the speed with which you explained each topic was a little too fast. Additionally, the content of some of the slides was a little text heavy, such as that for the discussion slide. This inevitably read to reading content off the slide itself without much room for your own elaboration.

I really enjoyed your presentation. I like the fact that you were explaining more then what was on your slide, something I probably should’ve done, and also the fact that it was short and to the point. Another aspect that I liked was that you included the authors name and institutional affiliation, another part I forgot to put in. There was just a very small problem I saw and I might’ve been confused about it, but when you mentioned in your introduction “Is there theory related?”, were you talking about someones theory or were you saying that theory is involved? Because if it was someone else’s theory, then it should be “Is their theory related”? Overall, I thought it was an amazing presentation, very clear, and concise.

Great over all. It outlined all parts of an apa paper. The voice was as clear to understand as the presentation. I do believe however that the references should be explained further, please see page 37 of the manual.

Great Presentation! I liked that you spoke very clearly and that you allowed the audience time to read at what was written on the slides. You gave a great overview of most of the aspects of the APA research paper. The only thing that I did not see in this presentation was the mention of the author’s note. Please refer to pages 24-25 of the APA manual for information about the author’s note

    • Anna Zawidlak-Czechyra September 23, 2011 at 9:46 am #

I loved your presentation. Not only you presented the APA format in great and easy way, but also your voice, and the way you use it, made the whole presentation way more interesting.

This presentation is very clear and instructive. Details about the main parts of the paper are outlined in a way that is easy to follow. However I found that the author’s note is not mentioned. Please see pages 24-25 in your APA manual for details on the author’s note.

    • Sara Airasian September 23, 2011 at 8:46 pm #

For an 8-10 slide assignment, I really enjoyed yours. I was able to understand the language and you also made it detailed to explain any questions the viewer might have still had. great presentation for other students to look at when they don’t know the APA format,

      Kristen,

Great job on this presentation! Spoken clearly and mentioned everything that should be covered when writing an APA paper. I enjoyed the set up and the detail of the slides; enough to understand what was being discussed but not too much to clutter the slides. One critique I would make is that the abstract and title pages should actually be on separate pages. Page 27 in the APA manual details this further. Overall, though, your presentation was great!

    • Shade September 23, 2011 at 12:41 am #

This student offered a very short and succinct presentation. The audio was clear, the voice translated well and was easy to follow. I noticed a couple of things that I failed to add, like the title page, abstract, introduction, and accurate word count for each of these.
My only critique relate to the layout formatting in the presentation, which was lacking consistency in style/layout, i.e. it could have been a bit more organized. I also missed seeing examples of reference.

This presentation addressed the overall guidelines for writing an APA research paper in a very thorough way. However, guidelines on what to include in the body of the paper (Introduction, Method, Results, Discussion) are missing.

      • Luis Macas September 23, 2011 at 12:50 pm #

Please refer to Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (2010) for more information on how to write the introduction, method, results, and discussion sections of a research paper (p. 27-37).

    • Jeselle Flores September 20, 2011 at 7:31 pm #

The author of this presentation did a great job explaining how to cite authors in APA style. It was very detailed and clear. However, I thought that she spent more time discussing about citations instead of explaining how to write a research paper in an APA format. For example, she did not mention methods, results, or discussion.

After seeing this presentation, I feel that the student has a clear understanding of what an APA style Paper should include. It was very clear, easy to understand, and made its point to the viewer. I liked how more was said about each topic then what was written, and that even though the Reference page wasn’t all there, it was explained and was given an example as well. The only thing I didn’t see was that the title should be no more then 12 words, but other then that, the presentation was excellent.

Great presentation. However, the Publication Manual of the American Psychological association (2010) suggests the method section be subdivided into “labeled sections. These usually include a section with descriptions of the participants or subjects and a section describing the procedures used in the study” (p. 29)

    • tatyanabazarova September 23, 2011 at 4:49 pm #

      Hello Anna,
You did good job on your presentation. Its organized and easy to follow, however I wish it was more detailed. For a example: according to APA manual on page 23, recommended length for the title is no more than 12 words and it should summarize the main idea of the paper. I think this is very important information and should be mentioned, if you teaching someone how to write an APA style paper. Overall, good job.
